In 1974 our founder, Fred Schumm, started the business. At that time he was teaching at Montclair State College in the field of dendrology (the study of trees, furniture and other wood applications). With his expertise in designing and building furniture, he established Professional Kitchens. The use of the best quality material and superior craftsmanship with lasting design applications has always been the focus of his company. His emphasis is not on the growth of the company, but instead on the enjoyment and pride of creating enduring kitchens.

In the early 1990’s after graduating from college, his sons, Chris and Carl Schumm, began working with Professional Kitchens. We now have a very large, loyal group of clients who have hired us for subsequent work and recommended us to their friends. Their kitchens serve as our showroom.
